How to use
- Popup: Open the ChatSaver popup → Export chat to download the full conversation.
- Context menu (right-click on ChatGPT): Open Chats, Export chat, Save chat, Export/Save selected (Pro), Export JSON, Export ZIP (coming soon).
- Keyboard shortcut:
Ctrl + Shift + K → Export chat.
What gets saved?
- Exports: Downloads an HTML file (and internally generates Markdown for previews).
- Library (“Open Chats”): Stores saved chats locally in your browser using
chrome.storage.local.
- Preferences: Button position, filename template, and license info are stored in
chrome.storage.sync.
Free vs Pro
- Free: Export full chat (up to 10 saves/month). Save to library.
- Pro: Unlimited exports + Export/Save selected portion of a chat. ZIP/batch features will be Pro when added.
Already Pro? The popup shows Pro active and disables the Upgrade button.
Troubleshooting
- “Could not find chat container”: Make sure you’re on a conversation page at
https://chatgpt.com/…. Try refreshing the tab.
- Nothing happens from the popup: Ensure the active tab is a ChatGPT conversation; otherwise Export is disabled.
- Selection actions disabled: Those are Pro-only features.
Privacy
Chat content never leaves your browser. See the full Privacy Policy.
What does ChatSaver do?
It saves your ChatGPT chats locally and lets you export them as HTML, Markdown, ZIP, or JSON.
Known tips
- Very large chats may export slowly. If ZIP fails due to size, export HTML or split the chat.
- JSON export is ideal for backups and can be re-imported on the Notes page.
- Works offline for exports; license checks only run when you press Verify or Re-check.
