Help

Use this page for common support paths: installing the extension, exporting chats, saving to your local library, activating Pro, recovering a lost license, and troubleshooting browser issues.

How to use the extension

  • Popup: open the ChatSaver popup and choose Export chat to download the full conversation.
  • Context menu: right-click on a ChatGPT page to open chats, export a chat, save a chat, export JSON, or use selected-text actions where available.
  • Keyboard shortcut: use Ctrl + Shift + K to export a chat, if the shortcut is enabled in your browser.

What gets saved?

  • Exports: the extension can download a file, such as HTML, Markdown, JSON, or ZIP when supported by the current build.
  • Local library: saved chats are stored locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local.
  • Preferences and license state: settings such as button position, filename templates, and license status may be stored in chrome.storage.sync.

Free vs. Pro

  • Free: export full chats and save to the local library within the free-plan limits shown in the extension.
  • Pro: unlock unlimited/pro-level export workflows, selected-chat export/save actions, and future batch or ZIP features when added.

Already Pro? The popup or settings page should show Pro active and disable the upgrade prompt.

Installation help

Start from the download page, install the extension, then refresh any open ChatGPT tabs before testing the popup, context menu, or save action.

Activation help

Enter the license key exactly as provided and use the email used at purchase. If activation fails, check for extra spaces, wrong email, device limit, or a revoked/replaced key.

Read license setup instructions

Lost license

If the key was lost, use recovery. Because raw keys are not stored, a replacement key may invalidate the old raw key while keeping the same license record and activation history.

Recover license

Troubleshooting

  • “Could not find chat container”: make sure you are on a conversation page at https://chatgpt.com/…, then refresh the tab.
  • Nothing happens from the popup: make sure the active tab is a ChatGPT conversation. Some actions are disabled outside supported pages.
  • Selection actions disabled: selected export/save actions may require Pro.
  • Very large chats export slowly: try HTML or Markdown first, split the chat, or wait for the browser to finish processing.

Privacy

Chat content is designed to stay in your browser. License checks send license/device information, not saved chat content. Read the full Privacy Policy.

What does ChatSaver do?

It saves your ChatGPT chats locally and lets you export them as HTML, Markdown, ZIP, or JSON.

Known tips

  • Very large chats may export slowly. If ZIP fails due to size, export HTML or split the chat.
  • JSON export is ideal for backups and can be re-imported on the Notes page.
  • Works offline for exports; license checks only run when you press Verify or Re-check.
